Vranov on Thaya

The town of Vranov is part of the Znojmo district and South Moravia. It is also the center of the whole Vranovsko region and one of the few gateways into the Podyji National Park. It is located on the banks of the river Thaya, near the Austrian border. The landmark of Vranov and of the whole region is a castle, built on a rocky promontory above the river Thaya. The first mention of this castle comes from 1100. It is one of the most visited castles in the Czech Republic . Many cultural events including concerts , exhibitions , theater performances etc. take place here during the tourist season.

The mount of tourism in Vranov on Thaya began in the period after the 1st World War. The construction of the Vranov dam meant big bolster for the tourism in the region. Many accommodation facilities and tourism infrastructure were built here in this period.

Currently, the town rapidly gets up from the unfortunate legacy of 1948 – 1989 governments. The establishment of the Podyji National Park was a big boost for the growth of the town. Podyji is famous for its unique animal & plant species and it can be thoroughly explored thanks to several wonderful biking and hiking trails .

The representative bodies of the town today proclaim the effort to return Vranov to its original beauty and attractiveness.
