Cornstejn ruin

Cornštejn (from german Zornstein) is a Lichtenburg castle ruin located in the cadastral municipality of Bitov, about 8 km northwest of Vranov. The castle stands on high rocky promontory near Thaya river, just a half mile southeast of Bitov castle. German origin of the castle’s name stands for anger (Zorn) and stone (Stein) castle. Corstejn was chosen as the most romantic place of South Moravia in 2008 iDNES.cz readers’ poll.

The castle stands on a high rocky neck of a massive river headland of the river Thaya, near the mouth of the Želetavka, one and a half kilometers southeast of the castle Bítov. The river valley below the castle is partly flooded by the Vranov dam.
